In February 2024, the UAE emerged as a significant contributor to Japan’s crude oil needs, supplying 44.1% of the country’s imports, which totaled 71 million barrels. This amounted to 31.3 million barrels, according to the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy in Tokyo. The majority of Japan’s crude oil imports, approximately 96.7%, came from five Arab nations, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman. Earlier in January, Arab countries provided 92.8% of Japan’s oil imports, with the GCC nations leading the contribution.
